Discussion 51

Welcome to another discussion round! It is a pretty straightforward game where I give you a question that you'll answer in a new comment, and I'll give you two random cards for answering. Since this is a discussion, don't be shy! Feel free to comment on other player's threads too~

"What's an otp that gives you intense nostalgia? AKA lets talk about old school otps!"
(Example: Gene Starwind and Melfina from Outlaw Star was one of those pairs I loved a lot and I am fond of it still! Subaru and Tsukasa from .hack//sign was also super great.

Lets not talk about Prince of Tennis.)!

Have fun everybody! This round ends on May 3rd.

I think Digimon was the first series I really shipped in. . . though I didn't really realize it was shipping at the time. I just remember really wanting Taichi/Sora and Takeru/Hikaru to be endgame, and my middle school mind was convinced that both pairs would eventually get married LIKE IT WAS A GIVEN. AND THEN THE END OF 02 HAPPENED and middle school me was so confused about how those two pairs weren't together.

So yes. Digimon ships invoke intense nostalgia for me for being the first series I shipped in.

I might have to go outside of anime, since most of my ships long enough ago to make me nostalgic are either things I don't ship much anymore because they were kids and I feel weird shipping preteens when I'm old enough to be their mother, or are not anime couples, so I don't know if they're fair game here

the otp that gives me nostalgia is the otp i talk about all the time LMFAO this game made me remember how much i loved them but yeah i won't go into them yet again. i don't really remember shipping much when i was a kid (like younger than 14)... probably because i had no attention span... i only watched anime for transformation scenes

That would be Duo Maxwell and Heero Yuy, Rei Kon and Kai Hiwatari I shipped them a lot a really really long time ago.. this makes me remember how much time have passed since then and how much have changed.. Good old times. Maybe I should look into them again and see how the people are doing I used to hang out with around that time.

I remember watching a random episode from Pokemon where Drew and May appeared and there was something about their rival dynamic that really appealed to me. I also intensely shipped Starfire and Robin from Teen Titans before I even knew that "shipping" was a thing; it's not an anime or manga but I think it's worth mentioning because I can't recall any other older pairings that I really liked.

Mmhhhh...old otp...I think Bastard is old enough! I really shipped Dark Schneider/Kall-su and Gara/Arshes Nei at the time...plus two of the generals of which I don't remember the names...then the manga went crazy -.-""

Sakura/Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura... oh, dear god. That was the very first pairing I shipped hardcore, and the one that brought out my embarrassing teenage fangirl stage. Back when the show first aired on Kids WB (yes, I'm referring to the dreaded dub version), I saw something in these two that drew me in. Mostly I blame the famous elevator episode for making me ship them a little, seriously, but it grew worse when I finally learned about all the changes between the original version and the dub.

While I still love the ship, I'm not so into them anymore and I love other pairings with older people more. Case in point, see my icon...

My first ship with nostalgia. Kuwabara/Yukina from Yu Yu Hakusho was my first pairing because of how sweet and cute it could be. And the potential angst behind it too. It was the only ship I actually had, despite thinking that Kurama/Yusuke/Hiei could work, in the series, and I still ship it.

I was 7 years old, when I got into Lady Oscar (or The Rose of Versailles, as I found its other name to be later.) and it has literally been 20 years this year since I first saw the old VHS tapes. They happened to be in the local library, I just looked at them and thought the art looked amazing... So I went home with them and just kept watching until the day when they took them away from the library. It's not like I knew much about shipping back when I was that young, but I never forgot Oscar, Andre and Marie Antoinette, or the story (which, btw, was a cut version on those tapes, to no one's surprise maybe.)

Then I got back into anime in 2006! My first marathon was all 40 episodes of Rose of Versailles and 50+ of Full Moon wo Sagashite right after that, but shhh, while I was alone at our house. ...And I fell in love with the complete story of Oscar & Andre so much that it's still one of my most loved pairings of all time, and definitely the oldest and most nostalgic to me!♥ Not that I don't half-secretly have a thing for Oscar & Marie Antoinette too, but I'd choose Andre for her any day! I'm so happy that they all have decks (commander, servant, deficit) here, so I can collect them one day. I still love Rose of Versailles so much, it's one of my favorites ever, even though it's not really something I'd usually watch at all.

Oh man, if it's ship nostalgia, it definitely takes me back to my Rumiko Takahashi days. Ranma/Akane was near and dear to me, and Inuyasha/Kikyou was a ship I dedicated a lot of fannish energy towards in Inuyasha fandom.

Though, I think the very first pairing I truly shipped had to be a more bizarre one in Yu Yu Hakusho: Yusuke/Botan! The first episode I ever saw of the series was the second, and it somehow managed to completely hook me on the idea of the two of them as a couple. (Rewatching the series years later I'm... not totally sure why, but okay, younger self.) I. I was so into it, and it was probably part of what pushed me into my huge "crack pairing" phase back then.

Hmm nostalgia... Definitely Vegeta/Bulma because I've liked it for about 14+ years. I remember when I was a kid and Trunks appeared and they said he was Bulma and Vegeta's son, so I was confused because I thought Bulma was with Yamcha, and I had to ask everybody around me what had happened and how it had happened. Of course no one told me because no one was really sure how it had happened. I was mystified (and a little bit scandalized) by the whole ordeal, so of course I ended up loving it haha (I was a weird kid XD).

Another nostalgia ship would be Ikki/Saori from Saint Seiya. That one I have to admit makes no freaking sense, but for some reason when I was a kid I came up with it even if, back then, I didn't even like or watch Saint Seiya! I've always liked Ikki though and I think the only scene I watched of the anime was one where he said something to Saori, so of course my child mind had to hook them up (like I said, I was a weird child djhsdf).

MISTY AND ASH IN POKEMON. Which is ironic since it's not my OTP anymore. :'D It will always hold a spot in my heart though.

haha pretty much anything I shipped from ye olden days of 90s anime. uhh Haruka/Michiru, Vegeta/Bulma, mostly a lot of canon ships and stuff like that. (Gene/Melfina and Subaru/Tsukasa are both super great too yessss). but a bunch of my old ships are just like "why the heck did I actually care about them that's so boring" pfft.

OH MAN also Kurama/Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho I literally just remembered how much I loved them, it was like, an embarrassing amount. I remember acquiring a friend in middle school because I'd taped printed out fanart of Hiei and Kurama on one of my binders ahaha oh lord.

Well my STILL current OTPS are pretty nostalgic for me /_\ I was really into Leon x Ada since I was about 9, when Biohazard 2 first came out. I really like it alot still, its one of my favorite couplings. Thye ended up kissing in the second game, but when they re told it on the Wii, they left that part out, I was really bummed. Ever since though, its been a cat and mouse chase, its one long tease...
also Kaiba x Jounouchi, i was into that since before i can even remember.

Oh lord, I always loved the typical pairings when I was younger, for the most part. Inuyasha/Kagome, Koga/Kagome, Kenshin/Kaoru, etc. etc. I was SUPER into Roy/Ed and Elricest also which... doesn't even make sense since I don't care about them at all now, LOL. Being 14 was weird.
