Welcome to another discussion round! It is a pretty straightforward game where I give you a question that you'll answer in a new comment for two random cards. Since this is a discussion, don't be shy! Feel free to comment on other player's threads too~

This weeks discussion was suggested by Marge, and is...

"Have you ever gotten curious/interested in a series because of the cards in other people's collections? Maybe it was the designs, or a specific pairing—or even a deck name!"
(Example: This is true for me most of all with the special decks! The images are usually super nice, and if I'm interested in a specific theme I will most likely try to find out what all the cards are from and see how potentially relevant to my interests the series they come from are.)

I'm definitely watching Futari wa Pretty Cure, and slowly working my way through all the series (God knows how long that's gonna take) because the character designs on here seem really eyecatching and adorable. And it turns out that an anime meant for 8 year olds is actually freaking great so far.

Yesss PreCure is actually really great! I can't vouch for all seasons since I've only recently got into that trap myself (though I started backwards with Smile), but I have no regrets so far.

Not yet at least! I haven't been in Pairings that long, though, so we'll see... Though I will say that at the very least, I have seen a couple people shipping things I hadn't thought of, which made me go "oh, huh, that could work" which is close, haha.

I got into Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai beause of the cards I've seen! The girls looked adorable, and a I am a huge fan of Slice of Life comics/mangas/shows. I also got interested in a few others but that one is big for me since it's so cute.

uh... well for me it's more like i've had some ships i've liked from either canons i've yet to get into (e.g. prince of tennis) or canons i grandpa simpson walked in and out of (there's a lot)... so when i see these cards in other people's decks it's like "man i really want them but maybe i should finish the canon first so having it in my collection would actually be reasonable"

though in my experience getting into canons because of a ship usually ends up being pretty disappointing because there's not enough ship bait for me LMFAO

^ sob this is me. "WOW I SHIP THIS A LOT.... except I never actually finished the canon/started it, oops".

Not really, to tell you the truth. Then again, I've only been in Pairings for over a month so it's too soon to say. Usually when I get into a pairing, I have to make sure I actually like the characters and the series they're in first! If I don't care for either, then not even the designs will convince me.

I haven't gotten into anything new yet, but I have been rewatching some anime because of sets ive seen. I'll be like 'omg i haven't seen that pair in sooooo long!' and watch the anime thru again. I've already gone through 07-ghost again and skipping through some fullmetal alchemist hahahaha

There actually hasn't been a lot since I'm still faaaairly new to Pairings! So that is a thing. :|a But I'm sure stuff will appear over time that'll make me really interested in stuff. /o/

Scree. Um. What's the proper answer? Not this TCG? Not yet? It's one of those (possibly both). I see a lot of things that look interesting (and a lot of cute ships), but I haven't gone and actively looked up what's from what. On the other hand, Pairings is making me a lot more interested in canons I was already interested in but haven't had the opportunity to check out yet. For instance: Umineko. But considering how many canons I've at least dabbled in over the years, there's the double hurdle of finding something I hadn't already heard of and then getting me interested in it to qualify for total victory.

(Pairings is a great nostalgia buff, though, oh my god. So many canons and ships I hadn't thought about in years, most of which I refuse to let myself contemplate collecting.)

ummm I have! As deckmaker, I get to do a lot of decks from shows I'm not familiar with and while looking at the designs or scenes from screenshots, sometimes I've gotten curious. There have been some particular shows I've gotten into because I was influenced by the TCG, like the Fate/ franchise, dangan ronpa, macross frontier, hakuoki and much more recently, zettai karen children hahaha ~~THANK YOU SO MUCH, HEATHER.~~
Other decks have also made me curious about specific series (everything type-moon, really, umineko, corpse party, kagerou project) but I haven't actually gotten around to check most of those series because so little time ;___;

I do hope I keep getting influenced to check out series that otherwise would pass under my radar.

When you see about 80% of the members collecting Dangan Ronpa cards, you figure there might be a slight chance it'd be something pretty good, right?

My interest in The World God Only Knows and Strike Witches (though the latter is more due to Colors) has definitely piqued thanks to TCG exposure. "oh this girl is pretty let me get her deck but i should probably watch the anime first huh"

I have also been persuaded to watch Psycho-Pass from Akane being featured in one of the game rounds 8Db

More I keep an eye out for shows everyone is talking about, which tend to get deck names and attention in games. I might not watch them, but I might at least give them a look to see what they are about.

Though, right now I have so much else going on, I can't really watch much of anything new.

Yeah, having a busy life can definitely curb that sort of problem, haha.

I think Dangan Ronpa and Free! caught my interest from Overdrive and Pairings respectively XD It was mostly the art style for Dangan Ronpa and the discussion section for Free!...

hmm, not that i can think of! i do like the astrological naming of some of the starry sky decks, though. i'm a sucker for canons that play off things like zodiac signs (looks at persona 2).

i feel like i've seen a lot of cards with really cute female characters on them, but i can't think of what those decks are offhand? and though i've been meaning to watch/get into precure for ages, seeing the cards around do remind me to get to it!

I started reading Akaya Akashiya Ayakashino because I really liked the art I saw on a few decks, but then I ended up not getting far/not liking it much to be honest XD

I'm really curious about Toaru Majutsu no Index right now though, entirely due to how the characters look interesting, especially expression wise, from what I've seen on decks on different tcgs.

not yet, but i do get curious about where the names of some of the decks come from? like they just get really cool, interesting names so i look them up on the card list to find out why!

some of the decks are so pretty that i want to collect them even without knowing their canon LMAO, so that'll probably be enough motivation for me to try something new

Haha, I do the deck name thing too, especially with the real quirky and/or mundane ones. WHY IS IT CALLED THIS??

I have not, alas! But I have gotten into a series based on people's journal icons. . . I totally read Deadman Wonderland because I liked the way an icon artist colored the manga panels. . .

WELL, I can give a yes to this! Although for me it was more like the series had already caught my interest, but then seeing the decks and people collecting them gave me the final nudge in the right direction. ;)

I do get curious, pretty regularly too, and it always has to do with the deck names. For example, I read the names of the decks for Zetsuen no Tempest, i.e, romeo, ofelia, hamlet etc, and I got curious because of the Shakespeare references. I don't really know what that show is about, but every time I see one of those decks I wonder haha. I'm always curious as to why decks are given the names they have, but I'm too lazy to find out, so I just wonder endlessly XD

Yeah the deck names are A Problem sometimes. I'll often go read the description on the deck page, but if that doesn't explain things sufficiently I'll end up wikitrapped, sob!

Unfortunately not. I rarely series I didn't know about beforehand (I have friends who all have different tastes so I end up knowing a lot of series). However, sometimes TCGs do motivate me to play/watch things that I didn't have the motivation to watch or play earlier, which is pretty great.

Edit: I just remembered, it wasn't on Pairings but on Reverie. I remember I liked DRAMAtical Murder deck so much I decided to give the series a try.

Sadly, no. Not yet. I'm surprised by some pairings that people like, though! I never realized how many people had tastes in such different (not so normal) pairings, and that makes me happy.

Yesss, I love looking through other people's collections/masteries and being surprised with uncommon ships, or obscure ones.
