Discussion 48

Welcome to another discussion round! It is a pretty straightforward game where I give you a question that you'll answer in a new comment for two random cards. Since this is a discussion, don't be shy! Feel free to comment on other player's threads too~
"Lets talk about voice acting! Dub vs Sub! Do you have a preference between watching it subbed or dubbed? Or maybe you like a particular dub for a specific show? Do you have a voice actor that you like? Do you prefer video games with or without voices? Anything that's related to voice actors is fair game!"
(Example: I watch about 99% of my shows subbed mostly because I am a hardcore seiyuu nerd. I love playing the "MATCH THE VOICE" game, and it's one of my favorite aspects of watching anime! Koyasu and Sugita are some of my faves, but I could literally go on for hours and hours talking about my favorites cuz there's about a million oops. However, that doesn't mean I'm against all english voice actors! In fact, there are a few english voice actors that I really like! Kari Wahlgren as Haruhara Haruko happens to be one of my favorites for example.)
Have fun everybody! You still have until April 2nd to comment to the discussion post from last round! However, this round will end on April 14th to keep up with the schedule

That said, these days I watch most of my shows subbed because there isn't a dub for them yet. (Obscure canons, go.) That said, I don't really have one specific favorite seiyuu - though Nana Mizuki and Jun Fukuyama are up there.
As for English voice actors? I love Kari Wahlgren and Liam O'Brien. (Fact: a character being voiced by Liam O'Brien immediately sends them to my favorites list.)

But fangirling aside, I too am a seiyuu nerd to the point that I even watch seiyuu events they're so much fun though (I blame Marge for this one!) so I prefer to watch sub over dub.
There are lots of seiyuus that I love to death. Let's start with the obvious ones aka Nakai Kazuya, who just has to open his mouth and I'll love it 5ever; Miki Shinichiro because he was the voice of Lockon Stratos in Gundam 00 and was so charming I died; Yoshino Hiroyuki because he was the first seiyuu whose voice I learned to recognize, plus he always sounds cute lol; Suwabe Junichi because yes!; and obviously Koyasu because he's awesome. Special mentions go to Koyama Rikiya and Itou Kentarou because they have the kind of voices that I can instantly recognize, so I love it. As for female seiyuus, my all time favorite is Kobayashi Yuu because her screaming voice is hilarious jsdhjds.
I could continue, but I'll better shut up XDAs for video games, I'll have to say that I love love love the voice work in the Metal Gear Solid series. David Haiter as Snake is so good that when I hear Otsuka Akio's voice I think it sounds weird and I really like Otsuka Akio sjdkhf!

So....SUB FOR LIFE!
As for games, I like them with voice if it's good, as in World of Warcraft *___*

I DO HAVE FAVORITES!!! Sugita is my prince, aaa~ Sawashiro Miyuki is my princess~ I love many others and I also try to recognize the voices while I watch shows.
I mostly heard dubbing in videogames and I prefer my games with voices, whether in english or japanese, tbh. I try to look out for undub games on the net if I like the japanese cast, but I can also enjoy the game with the English dub (which was the case with Tales of the Abyss) so I'm quite open, in fact but anime I mostly watch subbed.

It is a bit weird because the same voices keep popping up. I notice that a lot less in subs.

Also got a soft spot for 4kids' absolutely ridiculous dubs and Saban's punderful Digimon dubs.
Favorite seiyuu are Tomatsu Haruka, Iguchi Yuka, Uchida Maaya, NakaYuu, Yusa Kouji, Hayami Saori, and The Sugita.

Or maybe you like a particular dub for a specific show? I prefer One Piece in German honestly… the voices of the main cast fit the characters' personalities a lot more than the Japanese voices but then again, the German version is the first one I watched so I'm possibly, maybe biased. I also plan to watch Baccano! in English because I think it makes more sense when they don't speak Japanese? It's more authentic if I remember the story right. (Except that I'd need subtitles too because my listening comprehension in English isn't that good, haha.)
Do you have a voice actor that you like? I have a couple but not so many… Hirakawa Daisuke, Suwabe Junichi, Sawashiro Miyuki, Hanazawa Kana and Nakata Jouji.
As for the video game question, I don't care either way. Voices are nice when the voice acting is done well but I can also do without.

All that aside, I do have a strong preference for the Spanish (Latin American) dub of CCS over the original, though I adore both!
As for favorite seiyuu, I have several! Jun Fukuyama, Ami Koshimizu, Yuuchi Nakamura, Miyuki Sawashiro, Yukana, Daisuke Ono, Mamoru Miyano, etc.

My favourite seiyuu of all time is Koyasu Takehito. I also love Miki Shinichiro, Park Romi, Midorikawa Hikaru and Fukuyama Jun.
I prefer games with voices but it isn't a sticking point - I won't not play a game if it doesn't have voice acting. For foreign language games, I prefer subs over dubbed voice tracks but most of the games I play are usually originally in English.

As for video games, the only one I remember playing is...
MaplestoryLegend of Zelda. I like it without voice acting because I tend to mute the game and playVocaloidother music as I go through the game.I don't really have favorites or non-favorites (because they're all better than me), but I do like Junichi Suwabe because he has like three characters that I know (Aomine, Atobe and Grimmjow.)

And like you said, I always tend to listen to the voices closely and see if I can match them with other characters. I really like voices that aren’t standard like Wakamoto, just love his rolling voice!

One of the things I prefer in English dub over the original Japanese is Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. The dialogue and jokes are wonderfully translated and partly localized and easier to understand than the original Japanese ones. Most of the voices fit their characters wonderfully, with some exceptions (Yukimura in particular, his voice actor sounds really weird at times). I'm sort of tempted to watch the anime in English too, since I'm more familiar with the dub voices.
Theeen there are some Finnish dubs I quite like. The first season of Pokemon was quite wonderful in Finnish. The later seasons are pretty good too, but some of my favorite voice actors retired from it after the second season. Digimon Zero Two's Finnish dub was good too, but I still prefer the original Japanese over it. Other than that, we have dubs of things like Beyblade, Monsuno and other monster hunting/battling series. They're usually really, really horrible. orz

Though i have seen some dubs and enjoyed them, specially panty and stocking, and fullmetal alchemist, and some of the naruto earlier series i watched in english haha

There's also the nostalgia factor because most 90s/early 2000s dubs are so bad omg but I watch them anyway. Once I was retwatching Yu Yu Hakusho with a friend and we were like "oh lord this is worse than we remember" but we just kept watching the dubbed version haha.
BUT I have only ever watched Baccano! dubbed and I don't even care if the subbed version is good, everyone should only watch the Baccano! dub because it's so ridiculous and perfect and they do fake old-timey accents and everything.

I started watching anime dubbed though with Bleach (as tacky as the dub of it is), and that introduced me to a lot of the good english voice actors like Johnny Yong Bosch who's one of my all-time favorites.
Also, I would never ever watch Pokemon without it being dubbed because it's my childhood and the tacky pokepuns are a classic.
Gundam 00 introduced me to most of my favorite voice actors like Miyano Mamoru, Kamiya Hiroshi, and Miki Shinichiro, and was what made me fall in love with Japanese voice acting in general really. Gintama with people like Sugita Tomokazu and Kugimiya Rie is another voice acting masterpiece.
And I got into video games without voices to start so I don't mind not having them but there's such high talent in them nowadays that it's always best to actually listen to the voices (it's also fun to do the "find a game without Troy Baker's voice" challenge).

As for video games hmmm I think it depends. Honestly I think games with a cinematic feel like Metal Gear Solid or like with the Tales of skits, voice acting brings a lot to the atmosphere! But then there's established franchises like Legend of Zelda where I wouldn't want Link or anyone else to have a voice because I've had a voice for them in my head all this time. I was totally jarred when Phoenix Wright got his English voice in Dual Destinies. I like Sam Riegel and all (Flynnnn Scifoooo) but I really didn't like how he didn't match the Phoenix voice in my head (and he didn't match the previous VA for the little Objection clips either)...
Wow that was a lot longer answer than I intended...

AS FOR VIDEO GAMES, It really doesn't matter. Most of the games I've played are english so I havent gotten to experience their voices in japanese or whatever their native tounge is. I WIL TELL YOU I PREFER LIGHTININGS JAPANESE OVER HER ENGLISH. I heard it only twice in 2 youtube videos when I was watching and I thought it was so different. So maybe I would prefer the games subbed, I'll probably never know.
I dont have any favorite eng actors, but I have some favorite seiyuus: Kana Hanazawa, Hiroshi Kamiya, Yuki Kaji, Park Romi & Jun Fukuyama. :3
