Prejoin Day 11 - Discussion Time!

Only 4 more games to go to finish the prejoin game-posting! Remember that the prejoin event lasts until March 31st so feel free to promote the community to other people you think would want to join during this period! Other than that, please help us reach our deck count goal! We've had a few donations already but not as many as we would like, help us out!
Now onto today's game! for today I bring another good old discussion round! hardest game, I tell ya

Today is fandom talk! I would like to know your opinion about fanfics and other fandom-related activities (fanart, cosplay, doujinshi, fanmixes, blogs, roleplay, etc)! Do you like them/dislike them? Do you contribute to fandom with any of these acitivities? Feel free to list the various ways you have contributed to fandom in the past and even link stuff if you feel like it! If by chance you don't participate in fandom-related activities besides TCGs, you can list your reasons, too! For this round I will give away 3 random cards but you have to write at least 3 lines in your comment! I know all of you can do that~
Prizes will be handed out in this post so no need to link to your prize thread! If you have any questions, let me know!

Prejoin Day 10 - Discussion

I remember back when I was really young, first started watching anime, my way of showing that I like the show (like... seriously, Sailor Moon was all I watched, then later Detective Conan) was drawing the characters (singly or in groups). Back then, of course I didn't know that was really contributing to fandom or anything like that, I just really liked the show. I rarely do that now because I rarely draw now, but a couple of years back, I roleplayed in panfandom RP groups on LJ and I tried to bring those characters alive. A lot of fun and dedication.

I don't cosplay, but some of my friends do, and they are REALLY good at making those customs too. Even one of them is a semi-professional cosplayer (if such a profession exists, she should be one, that's how good she is at it).

Now though, I just play TCG like Pairings to support. Addicting. Fandoms are addicting.

I love everything that contributes to fandom. Good fanfiction is pretty much my favorite thing in the entire universe, even though it can be really hard to find. I used to write fanfiction years ago for Fullmetal Alchemist, and that was a lot of fun. I've also been cosplaying for years (last one was Misato Katsuragi from Evangelion!). I make my own costumes, so it's a really fun thing to do. I also roleplay, usually just with friends, but recently I've joined two DW RPs, I'm really looking forward to them~

Oh gosh fandom things.

I read a lot of fanfiction, definitely. I think that's what initially got me into actually watching anime before, and even now I still read some of them whether they're good or not. I'm pretty picky with fanart I think, but I love stalking places like Pixiv, Tegaki and Zerochan for any good art of my fandoms. It's easier to find for some than others. Roleplaying is pretty fun too, especially when done with friends. I think of the ones listed there, I'm probably least into fanmixes myself, mostly because of difference of taste in music.

I used to write fanfics a lot, but then I stopped. Nowadays I write drabbles occasionally, though even that's rare. Also making icons is fun, even if I don't have the time for it anymore.

I first started in fandom when i was just 14 years old and the internet was a beautiful thing. I'm a fandom hogger. Every fandom I've been in I'm still part of (even the harry potter one, which was awesome back in the day lmao). I mostly read fanfics and doujinshi but in the past, once upon a time, I used to write fanfiction and makes FST for various series but I got bored of that. I was an active rper then too, mostly on forums and private groups but we all got distanced and whatnot so it stopped. I'm thinking of picking up RP again and actually get in a game but I haven't found the time to do so. Besides that I mostly lurk for fanarts and fanmixs because I'm a sucker for pairing mixes specially because the choice of songs makes me either agree or not and just try to find something that would actually fit the pair.
this is all over the place lmao

I like fandom-related activities! I mean, I don't really contribute to fandom anymore, but I used to~ And that's how I met a lot of people! It's a good way to get to know people who have the same likes as you do imo. Anyway, I can't draw so fanart was off limits for me haha. I didn't write many fanfics either, just one or two for a couple of fandoms, nothing big. I was one of those people who'd rather see what others contributed than being part of it myself haha. I find myself talentless in that sort of section anyway. I did a few fanmixes though & I roleplayed a few characters. (I don't like roleplaying though because I always found it awkward for myself partly because I always thought I wasn't doing the character any good by roleplaying them but some times others can be really good in character.)
So, I'm all for fandom related activities even though I hardly contribute haha. ;;

Hmmmm... fandom things!

While I can't say I'm active person when it comes to fandom contributions, I enjoy almost every form of fan work, fanmixes and fics being my favorites followed closely by discussion threads and fandom wars lmao. I also enjoy lurking weird corners of the internetz looking for fanart, even if I sometimes stumble across weird stuff like porn or gore.

If I may add this, I secretly enjoy weird/dumb parodies of my favorite series, stuff like meguca meguca and the hiimdaisy comic always crack me up.

Oooh, this is definitely a fun discussion topic~

I've been contributing to fandom ever since I first got into it with the Pokemon games! I used to draw pictures from the Pokemon instruction books... I still draw a lot of fanart nowadays, but I don't really write as much fanfic as I used to when I was a bit younger. I sort of fell out of the loop, but I still enjoy reading fanfic from time to time if I can find any that are really good. ♥

Aside from how I feel about fandom stuff, I love it! Looking at fanart is one of my favorite things to do, it's just really cool to see what all these artists are coming up with. And it inspires me to continue to draw, too!

Three lines...that's just cruel.

Hmm...I'm a fifty-fifty with the fandom stuff. I wrote some crappy fanfic at one point, and I still read some fanfics of my favourite fandoms. But, honestly-the writers just tend to annoy the crap out of me and I can't stand the slaughter of some of my favourite characters by writers, so I tend to stay away from fanfic now. Though, finding a gem of a fic makes it worth all the trouble. I don't do fanart (can't draw a paper bag..it's pretty sad), or cosplay (jsut too poor and lazy). I'm also in three TCGs-all fandom related.

Honestly, I'm ready to curl up to my laptop (i would say book but...no) and read a good fanfic thanks to all my procrastinating hard work with school. It's really nice to be just unwind and watch your favourite characters get tortured and strive to be the best.

I'm all for the fandom because I honestly think that it's what makes a series even greater than it already is, and makes me love it that much more. You meet so many cool people with the same interests as you through those related activities, and it's cool to see how other people view the series and such.

As for contributing and participating, I'm not as creatively talented as I'd like to be so the most I can do is make graphics and spaz about it constantly. But I love seeing other's people's works, especially cosplaying! It's so neat how people can look exactly like a character from a series I like, and I'm even thinking of cosplaying this year depending on how things work out.

Fan fiction is awesome, too even if it's not written the best. So when you find really good fanfics, it's amazing xD I've read a few I really liked but also tons that never/rarely update, or I just forget to check orz and I use to write fanfiction (not for animanga but celebrities) so I'm all for fanfiction, too~ it gives you ideas that you've never thought about or indulges ideas you never thought someone else would agree with or something

I'm hardly active in fandom and I contribute to it even less. I'm just that kind of hermit fan who hide from the world and only fangirl with friends. |D I look for fanart on Pixiv and the Booru sites from time to time, otherwise all my fanfics, roleplaying and the very, very occassional fanmix are shared among friends only. I find that what I like seems to run counter to what fandom people like most of the time so it's hard to find fanfics/fanart of characters and pairings I love, and difficult to share my own fanfics of characters/pairings very few people are interested in. I used to RP pretty openly, but I have no time or passion for that hobby now. Same goes for cosplaying - it was fun, and then it just got really expensive, time-consuming and tiring. Nowadays my fandom activities are strictly limited to TCG things only, which is all good for me because at the moment I'm enjoying myself working for and playing in TCGs.

I like doujinshi, but again it's tough finding doujins of characters/pairings I really like. Last year, I got an anthology of my favourite character that I really wanted and that made me so happy since it was already sold out when I first found out about it. I feel like just getting that anthology made my doujin life complete. I had a Wordpress blog dedicated to anime merchandise if that counts as part of fandom activities, but that's really inactive now too. All I'm involved in is collecting graphics and expensive plastic things. My life.

I agree with everyone that fandom is a great way to make friends though! In fact, I met most of my closest friends through fandom because we managed to click together and things just started getting better from there.

[personal profile] buonaparte 2012-03-14 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
I suck at making anything fandom-related except icons & coloring \o/
I've been trying to practice drawing fanart for a bit though since I have some... colorful ideas in my head but once pen hits tablet it's just blegh.

But in regards to other people's works I absolutely love reading fanfics, gazing at fanart and teehee-ing at doujinshi of my favorite pairings/characters and such. I also love finding out about other people's headcanons about certain series (namely Hetalia and Homestuck??) 'cause even the littlest new idea can open up a whole new world of possibilities for a series you already love.

And echoing the others when it comes to making mutual fandom friends! It's always fun to have someone to spazz about things with~

I'm probably one of the only female that does not like fan fiction. xD I find it boring and very typical- so I'm not really into fan fiction at all. I don't know if I've contributed to the fandom any- but I do occasionally make graphics and DO attend conventions. : P I cosplay a bit- not as much as I want to. xD I don't think I'm very good at it personally. I got into anime very early, my first animes being Sailor Moon and Digimon- yes I count those- I even went as Sailor Moon when I was little to Halloween. xDD I used to roleplay ALOT-but it's a dying art. ; w ; I enjoy browsing through fanart sites and official art sites and looking at their art. Foreign art for animes is just gorgeous. I ucually rant about my fandoms and moments on TUMBLR- the biggest fandom site ever. xDDD My older sister is the one that got me really interested in anime- and well TCGS in general as well. xD

wow, this was longer then I planned it to be. xD

My favorite is fanfictions, I don't think I could live without reading tons and tons of them, no kidding! (Also I have this slight addiction to bad fics... they're pretty entertaining...) I do write a bit myself, too~ c:
Fanart is another kind of fanwork I love. The joys of finding awesome art for a fandom I'm in is great m(o3o)m and doujinshi are such a beautiful thing! I don't own a whole lot of them, but I treasure the few I have ;v;

Hmmm fandom. I guess I can say I have a kind of complicated relationship with fandom, since I went from not even knowing what the word meant/entitled to being really aware of it in a time span of one year. I say it's complicated because I'm very easily influenced and everything, from a fanart to a discussion board to something some one mentioned, can make me look at the canon differently. It can go from making me like a pairing I didn't even know it existed, to making me look differently at the relationship of two character. I don't particularly like the latter because once I've seen it, I can't ignore it and idk it makes me feel like people are putting ideas into my head XD, so I try to keep my interactions with fandom to a minimum and only talk about the things I like with the people I know.

I'm very canon oriented, so I don't particularly like fanfiction (although I remember that one awesome fic Joyce made me read) and I can't, for the life of me, write one. I've never read a doujinshi, though I want to read at least one (I really want to read that Adashino doujinshi that is somewhere in the depths of Marge's computer lol), and many things I like have little to no fandom (some of them don't even have fanart). Regarding other fandom related stuff like fanmixes, I can't say I'm familiar with them and cosplay, well, I would like to cosplay something simple at least once, since it's pretty expensive.

The thing I like from fandom is looking at fanart. I really enjoy it and it was through fanart that I felt motivated to read/watch some series that I really love now, like One Piece, Giant Killing and Gundam 00. Being in TCGs is the only way I've ever contributed to fandom and I like them because it gives me a chance to share the things I like and maybe meeting people who also like them. Wow this was longer than I expect it XD ugh I hope this doesn't make me sound like square and that I only like obscure stuff D:

I rarely touch anime fanfics except for the occasional well-written Naruto/Sasuke ones. Sad to say, I don't really show my fandom much LOL. No fan-mix, no blogs proclaiming ~~ forever Durarara!! true love ~~, no role-play, no cos-play. I do love to search through Pixiv for some incredible fan-art though. Doujinshis ... they're actually alright though I've only read like ... 2 since the start of my anime fandom. XD Since I found an anime source recently, maybe I'll get more into it now??? /touches sky-high pile of uni work

I used to be a lot more dedicated to fandom last year. I still cannot stop dedicating some time to fanfic reading once in a while, but my only way to do fandom-oriented stuff now is through participating in TCGs and having some discussion about series every once in a while.

I think fandom is a pretty awesome thing, I things the whole fanmix, cosplay and roleplay business, when done well, can enrich the experience of a fan with canon as a background. Doujinshi are amazing, too. I'm pretty sure they are more of a rage in Japan but what little we get here, can be pretty entertaining and sometimes artistically valuable.

Well... I like fanart, cosplay, and doujin.
I can't draw... I don't cosplay... and I only buy doujin with nice art, from favourite circles, or isn't too porny (HA good luck).

I used to have a Sailormoon website a hundred years ago aka the 90s. I also used to RP. I was scanning manga before doing so was cool.

Now, I just play TCGs, and look at fanart, and sometimes snag doujin... Pretty boring XD

OH AND I GUESS SOMETIMES I WATCH AND READ AND PLAY STUFF :I

Usually, I actually try to avoid fandom when possible FFFFFFF. That used to not be the case, but seeing as how I was really into Hetalia before, as well as still really into Higurashi and Umineko, the vitriolic opinions of those in and outside of fandom just kind of made me scoot faaaaaaaaar away from direct involvement with fandom in general. Of course, people having their opinions is perfectly fine! But when it's something like bashing the ending to Umineko and only loving the gory massacres in the beginning, I just have to wonder if they really paid attention to what the story was actually about...

On a more positive note, though, I do cosplay. I'm really slow with getting any done, but I'm trying my best to actually get some new ones done for this Sakura-con! I don't want to have to rely on my Spain cosplay that I've had for the past three years anymore, since in all that time it was practically the only nice cosplay I had done...

And I guess I keep trying to RP even though I keep getting nervous and end up dropping everything LMAO. Someday, someday, I'll successfully play a character in a game... someday...

Oh, fandom... How do I start with fandom? This soul-sucking, life-ruining...thing that has been a part of my life for a long long time.

I've been obsessed with anime and manga for more than 20 years. It started when I was in kindergarten (I read lots of Doraemon even though I couldn't read properly back then XD).

My first meeting with fandom was around 10 years ago (about a year after I started using internet) and boy, was it love at the first sight. Fanfiction is definitely my favorite thing in fandom. I read tons and tons of them. I even spend more time reading them than reading the original series.

I've written a few fanfictions here and there, and drew fanarts too. Sadly, I'm not good at both of those. I tried RP, but I didn't really like it. And I like looking at cosplays even though I don't do them.

I don't know what is it about fandom that is so addictive. But I know one thing for sure, I'm not gonna stop anytime soon :D

ah....fandoms. how i love and hate them /sob. I mainly immerse myself in the small one piece fandom on LJ. But the mostly, I stick with the OCxCanon area of the fandom. Because I love making characters for series. I love making characters in general. I love seeing cosplay and fanart. I'm very selective about my fics I read. I'm sad to admit that I'm not a big fan of yaoi and most fics are in that genre.

I typically am a lurker in most fandoms. If I do contribute its usually my crappy icons. /sob most my art is OCxCanon same with fic. I know most fans aren't into that, so I keep it to myself and my friends.

Aww I miss the times when I had enough free time to write fanfiction, though all of it's old and done when I was 13 so I cringe when I think about it ;~; Still it was really fun and the stuff I probably wrote is really OOC... As I got more aware though, I got kinda nervous writing since I was worried about making characters OOC... So I kinda moved onto writing original fiction where the pressure didn't feel as bad, the lack of time thing also made me stop writing ;w;... I used to read fanfiction all the time actually! I stopped for years but then Tiger & Bunny lit something in me and I read some fluffy stuff from the anon meme while I was on my glorious summer holidays~ Since college though, I don't have seem to have enough time these days to do fandom stuff...

I do love fanart though! I really respect artists with all their talent *A* I've hoarded folders of the stuff ajlkajsd and tumblr is really good for fanart too! I venture on Pixiv from time to time but I prefer tumblr filtering the artwork my way /lazy

I also want to try RP one day! The OOC thing scares me too though so I never did try it... Also cosplay! I don't even know where to begin with all the fabric and stuff but I want to make my own instead of buying for that proud feeling~ I really want Mami Tomoe from Puella Magi Madoka Magica as my first cosplay though, her outfit's so classy *A*

Also this reply is really long alskjdalsk Generally I only do tcgs these days to hoard series/characters etc that I love ♥ University kills my internet time ;~;

I love fandom! Well, I will freely aqdmit that some of them absolutely terrify me (looks at the majority of huge fandoms out there) but I've made a ton of good friends from fandom so I must say that all in all I really love it.

I've really only been into like, two or three fandoms in my life. What I mean by that is that these are fandoms that are most likely going to stick with me forever. I mean, I've devoted years of my life to these and I just sincerely enjoy them all. This is Prince of Tennis, Hetalia, Fire Emblem and Pokemon. Those three will stick with me forever. Or at least a very long time. It's hard to let them go, because I will always enjoy my fond memories that I had of them. I enjoy a lot of other fandoms too, but those are just the HUGE ones I guess.

I've managed to write fanfiction, roleplay and cosplay a few times around. I don't really have much free time to do much of the first two, but I manage to hit up at least one convention a year. I've only started two years ago, but they're so much fun! So I have two cosplays, which are both not all that quality but I had fun so who cares tbh.

So call me a lurker who submits a fanfic once in a blue moon.

Ahaha, yeah I'm been contributing to fandom for years now. I do believe I started with Sailor Moon fanfiction and then moving onto the crossover aspect of it all. I do remember writing my first Sailor Moon/Gundam Wing fiction XD. Ever since there I've written for a bunch of fandom over the years. Not a often anymore since I get really distracted with things but I still turn out something every once and a while. Recently just got into making simple icons for fandom as well.

Other than that I tend to read lots of fanfiction or look up fanart for my favorite couples XD.

I recently got an AO3 account, and I REALLY want to get into writing fanfictions, and I love RPing with my friends! I've just been too shy in the past |D
